A snafu happened during the job, but it was addressed and taken care of immediately. Mikku is a family run business and has old-fashioned integrity, and I would recommend them to anybody replacing their roof.

Commercial Roofs

Many commercial buildings in the Phoenix area use foam roofing as an efficient way to protect a flat roof. They have many benefits.

Here are a few quick facts about foam roofs:

  • Foam can be applied to almost any roof
  • It can greatly reduce your building’s energy consumption
  • Foam roofs can be easily repaired at low cost
  • They are completely seamless

What Is A Foam Roof?

Foam roofing is very flexible in its applications, so it is especially useful for roofs that have unusual angles and architecture. The material is sprayed on, where it foams up and then solidifies. After it solidifies a protective coating is added.

It has a few special advantages over other types of flat roofing systems. One of the biggest is that it protects against heat well, which will reduce your company’s energy bills. Studies have shown that a professionally installed foam roof will pay for itself in reduced energy bills in about five years.

Commercial Foam Roof

There are basically four steps to applying a Foam Roof:

  • The Bonding Process – The coating and foam bond which results in an excellent sealant against rain and moisture
  • Adhesion Process – A seamless layer of foam is applied to the entire surface and covers every corner and angle of the roof
  • Polyurthane Foam – This high-density, closed cell material is applied.
  • Elostomeric Coating Applied – Applied to the surface, this tough, water-resistant membrane protects against the elements and rain for years.

Benefits of Applying a Foam Roof to Your Commercial Building:

Easy Maintenance

Since the materials are sprayed on, there aren’t any fasteners, joints, or seams to let water seep into, which eliminates the need for counter flashing. It's dense and strong enough to walk on, so if there does happen to be some leakage it's relatively quick and easy to remedy.

Long-Lasting

Because they’re chemically stable, foam roofs can maintain their shape and structure for long periods of time. Applied by a professional commercial roofing company, it should stay in place as long as the building exists. you will have to apply a new coating every 10 to 15 years, however.

Excellent Insulation Ability

Because of its density and material, as we’ve mentioned before, they can be quite a heat resistant.  3 inches of this material has an R-value of 6.25/inc, which would be equivalent to an R19 insulation rating. It reduces heat contractions and expansions, reducing the chance of condensation forming underneath it. So, with the right amount of coating, it can add a great layer of heat insulation in the winter and keep your building cooler in the hot summer months.

Leak-Resistant

Other types of roofs may have layers of material or joints and seams where moisture can seep through or find, causing your roof to leak It can travel through the materials and show up as a leak in an entirely different area of the ceiling inside, sometimes making it difficult to determine the exact area of the initial problem. But, a foam roof is a large, solid mass with no joints or seams where water can get through, making it waterproof even through the worst monsoon storms.

Lightweight Material

It may look heavy, but foam roofing is about a third the weight of other standard roofing materials, putting much less stress on the building framing, with a larger strength-to-weight ratio than other systems.

Mikku and Sons Roofing has been serving the greater Phoenix area since 2001 and can take on any kind of foam roof repair or foam roof installation on your commercial property. Give us a call and let us put together a free estimate for you today.
